“Every ending is a new beginning.” The year 2025 has come and gone, and just like that, we find ourselves navigating our way at the start of a new year.
It may feel that we’re still coming out of a long, cold and dark night, unsure of what the contours of the future would be like, but we remain full of hope and optimism.
Rather than be bogged down with regrets, we move with a greater sense of purpose, fixing our sights on our goals, determined to use every opportunity to succeed.
Several reasons make us hopeful as we said goodbye to the previous year. Our minds, hearts, and spirits are enlightened by our faith after an uplifting celebration of our Simbang Gabi and Christmas tradition as one community, despite the distance from our homeland.
We also drew inspiration from our commemoration of the 129th anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom, as we honoured his enduring legacy and Hong Kong’s place in his journey.
The Philippine Architecture Festival, held in partnership with the United Architects of the Philippines, gave us pride in Filipino ingenuity in design and heritage. Meanwhile, the Philippines’ participation in the Diving & Resort Travel Show Hong Kong generated new opportunities for trade and investment.
As 2026 unfolds, we look ahead to celebrations that speak to the resilience and values of our people. The Lunar New Year on 17-18 February will usher in the Year of the Fire Horse, a symbol of strength, energy, and success. We will join the Hong Kong society in welcoming this season of renewal, carrying with us the hope that our community will continue to thrive with courage and determination.
On 25 February, we will mark the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, a powerful reminder of our cherished democracy and spirit of unity.
March, being Women’s Month, is another opportunity for us to salute and learn from the contributions of Filipino women, especially our migrant workers, whose strength and compassion sustain families and communities across borders.
The year ahead is full of so much promise, and we have to be ready to realise its potential as we go through the coming months, with and for each other. As a nation of faithful people, guided by common values of family and heritage, sustained by unity and compassion, may we carry forward our optimism to future generations.
Maraming Salamat po! Mabuhay!
