There will always be someone who doesn’t like you because you are different, your lifestyle is not anchored on tradition, you took an unlikely path to reach your goal, you work in an unpredictable phase, or simply because your opinion or point of view is unorthodox.
Someone will hate your grammar, your accent, the way you tie your shoelaces, your brand of deodorant (even though you’re actually using tawas), the shape of your eyebrows. Often, people dislike you because they are jealous of what you’ve achieved, or because you have both Adele and Lady Gaga as your Facebook friends. Some people will try to bring you down to raise themselves, which generally falls flat because they are just desperate. I’ve got news for you: it’s not your obligation to please them.
Yes, at times when you become aware that some individuals dislike you for petty reasons, it can be pretty stressful because they can strike into the core of your insecurities, which reaches your heart as well as your ego. However, one way to combat this is to tap into your inner strength and not let it bother you. Tell them, “Haters back off!” Just realise and accept that the world gives a life that will continue to throw complex storylines at you, and often, there appears to be no immediate ending in sight.
That’s why having a mindset that you can turn anything into a positive is beneficial. Huwag mong basagin ang sarili mong trip (don’t ruin your own magical imagination) as long as you aren’t hurting anyone. Don’t lose hope or become so upset just because someone dislikes your passion, career, favourite cartoon character, or the size of your ears, especially if that person has nothing to do with your life journey – Deadma mo lang sila (just ignore them).
One song that I will always cherish is “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. Hold on to that feelin’. It means continuing to trust yourself, regardless of the circumstances. If you have bashers, negative friends, or obnoxious acquaintances, let them vex themselves with jealousy; move forward and leave them. You can also consider them as doorways through which you can enter and draw your central vigour. Don’t lose hope. Don’t lose your passion. Maintain your energy and enthusiasm. Yes, I know that it’s easier said than done, but it’s the best move you will take. Never try to please everybody, today and tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, many people (and I will bet my bottom dollar that you are one of them) worry about the future. You have no idea what’s in store for you, whether good or bad. However, the unknown tomorrow can actually benefit you; you will be inspired to work smarter, to bring to pass what you think you deserve. And you will be delighted to know that when you finally experience the event you’ve been stressing about, it is entirely normal. And you will ask yourself, “Why was I worrying and afraid? Everything turned out fine in the end.”
Then you will sing, “Let It Go, Let it Go, Can’t hold it back anymore!” like you’re Elsa from Frozen. So, live your life to the fullest, and whatever needs to happen will happen.
What we need is the courage to face each tomorrow. We do not have to yell and announce that we are brave every day. Courage doesn’t always roar. Often, courage is the little voice that says, “I’ll try again tomorrow, I won’t give up.” Don’t focus on the idea of failing; instead, concentrate on how you can succeed and why you must do it.
Remember, most things will make perfect sense one day. For now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears, and remind yourself that some things happen for a reason. And since you are oblivious to the future, embrace the fact that it is always unknown. Use the present to influence your tomorrow. You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.
It may be necessary to experience failure in order to learn from it and discover your capabilities. Rise and be somebody; stand up and be proud; never quit and be an example to others.
Victory or success is much sweeter when you work hard for it and you’re not trying to please everybody.
