Human Rights

By Melody Nadal Aka Ody Munson

Who is aware that today is Human Rights Day?
Did you know as a human being you have your own rights?
Some are privileged, others are gravely abused.
We are all equal; why are some suffering?

Life is a survival, prosperity.
A bed that is comfy.
A shelter, a roof for our head.
Warm food for our tummy.
Beggars are begging for alms; I lost count, they are many.
Homeless on the street in this winter, freezing cold is such torture, a tyranny.

Agony and cries on my radio frequency,
Echoing whispers: justice be served, have mercy.
Where are the rights for humanity?
Are they exercised during this pandemic?

I’m trying to write to call for attention; I failed, I’m not prolific, my content is not enough.
I’m calling for unity to voice out speech, food, love, education,
Justice, peace, hope, religion.
All needed by our nation.
Most of all, adding equality and dignity,
Deprived by many; it’s not right.

Is it only every tenth of December that we remember Human Rights Day?
Day by day we are living and breathing.
Let’s exercise it every day.
All have the right to share, fair and square.

December 10, Happy Human Rights Day.
