Male choral singing is one of the great traditions of Wales.  Established in 1978 by a group of Welsh expats, the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir has since grown into a truly multi-cultural ensemble with members drawn from a dozen nationalities, including a fast-growing number of local Hongkongers.  Likewise, its repertoire, while still featuring many rousing Welsh hymns, now spans musical genres from Mozart to Queen and Abba, as well as languages from Welsh to Chinese and even Zulu.

Many of the Choir’s performances are for charity fund-raising purposes.  Besides giving more than 20 local performances in Hong Kong each year, the Choir makes regular visits to Thailand and the Philippines and has also performed in Mainland China, Malaysia and Vietnam, as well as further afield at such prestigious venues as London’s Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House.  A return visit to the Royal Albert Hall is lined up for next June.

Closer to home, the Choir has performed at many local folk festivals over the years – as have a number of its members individually – but this is its first appearance at the Lamma Fun Day.
